Eye Examinations

eye tests in bolton

What is an eye examination?

Getting your eyes tested can seem like a daunting experience, especially if you’ve never worn glasses or contact lenses before. However, once you understand what’s involved, you’ll realise that an eye test is just a routine procedure that ultimately helps monitor your eye health and maintain your vision.

The Eyetest is designed to check not only your prescription (how well you can see), but the health of your eyes and identify any possible eye conditions that may require further investigation. Depending on your age and family history, we may also carry out checks for conditions such as glaucoma and diabetes.

To find out how short or long sighted you are, your optician will run a few tests, including asking you to read letters and words with the print becoming smaller and smaller. Your prescription will be determined by how many of these letters or words you manage to read clearly before needing the help of a corrective lens.

As part of your eye test, your optician will also examine the back of the eye to find out how healthy your eyes are and to check for any potential issues that may require further investigation.

If your eye test determines that your vision requires correction, you’ll receive a prescription that will be unique to you. Your eye test will also have determined whether you’re long sighted (can see into the distance but not so well up close) or are short sighted, and have trouble seeing things far away.

Corporate Eyecare

How is corporate eyecare different to a normal eye examination?

The Eyetest carried out under Corporate Eyecare will be similar to that carried out under a normal Eyetest. However, particular emphasis will be made to the patients working environment, specifically working with a Visual Display Unit (VDU). If you would be interested in us carrying out corporate eyecare for your employees, please contact the Practice Manager Michelle.

Dry Eye Consultations

What is dry eye?

Dry eye syndrome is caused by a chronic lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture on the surface of the eye by the tear film. Consequences of dry eyes range from subtle but constant eye irritation to significant inflammation and even scarring of the front surface of the eye. In addition to being called dry eye syndrome, dry eye disease, or simply “dry eye.”

The Dry Eye Consultations will consist of carrying out non invasive procedures to deduce the quality of the tear film and then carry out a treatment regime which could mean recommendations of dry eye drops or ointment leading to referral to specialists for further investigations.

Direct Cataract referral

seddons opticians in bolton

How can we speed up your cataract referral?

As well as providing routine cataract referrals, our Optometrists, Musab and Naeemunisha are also qualified to carry out direct cataract referrals. This would entail carrying out further assessments in the testing room and the extra information is then utilised by the hospital to increase efficiency and reduce waiting times for the cataract operation procedure.

Post-operative cataract assessment

Can we assess you after your cataract operation?

Seddons Opticians is proud to be working in conjunction with Spa Medica, one of the UK’s leading provider of NHS cataract surgery. Both Musab and Naeemunisha are qualified to carry out post-operative cataract assessments. Therefore, once our patients have returned from their cataract surgery and the recommended duration has passed, the aftercare assessment is performed and if everything has gone accordingly, the patient can then be discharged by our Optometrists.
